NEWSLETTER 23.4.09

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the start of our final term of the year. I apologise for the number of requests in this letter and hope you can bear with us on this.

Scarlet fever Just to make you aware, we have two children from different classes suffering with this. Symptoms include really nasty tonsillitis, a high temperature and a red rash from top to toe. Should your child develop symptoms, they should see a doctor as they may need antibiotics.

Parking There were two serious incidents at the end of last term where children nearly got run down by cars. Please could you not park near the school, as it endangers the safety of the children.

Punctuality Please could I ask that all children are on the premises before the 9 o’clock bell, and are met promptly after school or clubs. If you are running late for any reason, please could you call us so that we know what is happening. We all end up worrying that you are OK as well as the children!

Holidays during term time Families are allowed up to 10 authorised days leave during the school year. However, by law this is for exceptional circumstances, and schools are under increasing pressure to ensure that children attend at all times. When you fill in a holiday request form, please could you provide reasons for taking a holiday in term, as the Educational Welfare Officer regularly looks at our records and sets attendance targets for us which we are supposed to achieve.

Extra-curricular activities A list is enclosed at the back of this letter.

Uniform It is usually impossible to know for sure who owns the sweatshirts left around school on a warm day, if they are not labelled. Please do ensure that your children’s clothes are named. I did wonder if it was worth asking for volunteers to spend a morning in school ironing in labels for a small fee to go to the PTA – anyone interested?

Also, on the subject of uniform, please could children wear correct uniform both in class and for PE.

Breakfast club I would be grateful if you could tell me if it would be helpful for you to regularly use a breakfast club if I could arrange one. Also, would anyone be prepared to run one in the village hall between 8am and 8.45?

Sun protection School sun hats are on sale in the office for £3.50 each.

With best wishes,

Sally McCloskey and the school team
